Who We AreThe David Roberts Art Foundation: exhibiting, collecting, sharing. A platform dedicated to critical dialogues and experiments, programmed by Vincent Honoré. The David Roberts Art Foundation Limited is a registered charity in England and Wales (No.1119738) and a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales (No. 6051439) at 25 Gosfield Street, London, W1W 6HQ. It is proudly supported by the Edinburgh House Estates group of companies. Exhibitions, ProjectsThrough our projects, we aim to question the structures of production and reception of art works and exhibitions. We invite artists to explore the different formats of an exhibition and to consider it not as a fixed structure, but as a temporary proposal opened to evolutions, experimentations and modifications. Together with group or solo exhibitions, the Foundation hosts an active programme of performances and discussions. The Curators' SeriesPart of our exhibition's programme, the Curators' Series aims to support international curators by commissioning special projects for the Foundation. Our mission of supporting contemporary art could not be complete without supporting those who create new and challenging contexts to experience artworks. Curators must remain independent to propose the best projects. Therefore they are free to use or not works from our collection. We provide the curators with a production budget, a curator's fee and a production structure, we help in finding additional support and we encourage them to experiment with and test new ideas. The process of selection is by invitation only. Cylena Simonds (UK), Raimundas Malasauskas (Lithuania) and Mihnea Mircan (Romania) are the three first invited curators. The Goldsmiths ProjectAs part of our Curators' Series, the Foundation is building a long-term collaboration with Goldsmiths MFA Curating. Through a process of open call, the Foundation offers one curator (or curatorial group) from the MFA Curating every year to present and develop a project for and with the Foundation. A board of International professionals selects the winning project from the received proposals. The Foundation is looking for experimental and dynamic projects that engage with the context of the Foundation and its position within the London art scene. The first selected project will be announced in October 2009 and will take place during the summer 2010.Artists' StudiosThe Foundation is operating 7 artists studios located in Camden. The studios are independent from the Foundation's public programmes and collecting activities. Artists currently occupying the studios are William Bradley, Dustin Ericksen, Graham Hudson, Radhika Khimji, Maria Domenica Rapicavoli and Indre Serpytyte. The David Roberts CollectionThe collection had been initiated more than 10 years ago. Diverse, organic, dynamic and engaged, the collection has no pretention to be exhaustive and wants to remain independent. For more information about the collection, see the collection's page on this website. The David Roberts Art Foundation CamdenThe Foundation's activities will have a new scope with a new site aimed to open in Camden. This building will offer us more than 1000 m2 of exhibition space, with an artists' studio, a resource room for screenings and discussions and new office spaces. It will allow us to propose revolving displays of works from the David Roberts Collection in curated group exhibitions where we will invite artists to participate and interfere with the displays and the exhibition's programme to create a collective dynamic and permanently evolving artistic experience. Once Camden will be operating, Fitzrovia will then only be dedicated to the Curators' Series with a series of commissions to curators invited for residencies at the Foundation. |
